Step 1. Have you enabled the MTD ITSA Feature?

If you have enabled the MTD ITSA feature, you should see the “My Business” and “MTD ITSA” Menu options.  If they are visible, proceed to the next step.

If they are not visible click on the following link to access the User Guide that will help you complete this step.

Step 2. Connect to your HMRC Account

Click on the Rhino Menu and select the MTD ITSA Menu.

Rhino will prompt you to enter your National Number.

Note: If the prompts does not appear, click on the EDIT button.

Click on the CONNECT button.

This will take you to the HMRC Login screen.

Clicking on the CONNECT button will take you to the HMRC website where you will be required to enter your HMRC Login details.

This process makes sure that you have authority to access this tax account, and prevents any unauthorized access to your tax account.

Follow the process until you get to the HMRC Login screen. Please enter your HMRC Login details.

Once you have accessed your HMRC Tax Account…

Click on GIVE PERMISSION to give Rhino permission to view and update your MTD ITSA submissions.

Once Connected, you will see that the Status has changed to CONNECTED and you will see other MTD ITSA tabs appear across the top of this screen.
Note: The additional tabs will not appear if you are not connected to your HMRC Account.

Step 3. Make sure the information in your HMRC Account is up to date.

Click on the Quarterly tab and then click on the REFRESH button.

This important step will download the Businesses and Properties that you have registered with HMRC.  It is important that this information is accurate and complete as it is used as the foundation of Making Tax Digital – I.e. Recording digital records for each individual Business and Property.

Note: If you need to update this information, you will need to login directly to your HMRC account and update this information.  I.e. This information cannot be updated via the App.  Once you are happy that the information is correct, repeat this step and REFRESH the Business information in the Rhino App.

Final Step. Connect the Businesses

You will now need to connect the Self-Employment businesses that you set up in Rhino to the equivalent business that you registered with HMRC.

To do this, click on the Rhino Menu and select the MY BUSINESS Menu option.  Click on the Settings Icon to connect each business with the correct HMRC registered business.

For each Self-Employment Business, select the corresponding Business Name that you registered with HMRC.

Note: It is quite common for Accountants to simply register your Name as the HMRC Business name if you only have one Self Employed Business.

When you connect each Business, you will see the SUBMIT button that you will use to make the Quarterly Submissions.

Note: You will be required to submit an update for each Self Employment business.  However, you do not need to connect each individual Property to HMRC – You only upload a summary for each type of property (i.e. UK Property or FOREIGN PROPERTY).
